When a mouse cursor feels uncontrollable or flies across the screen with slight hand twitches, the cause is typically one of three settings: an excessively high hardware DPI stage (e.g. 3200+ DPI), boosted Windows pointer multipliers, or active mouse acceleration.

2. Step 1: Lower Your Mouse Hardware DPI

Check the top or bottom of your mouse for a physical DPI button. Press it once to cycle down to a lower preset. If your mouse uses companion software, set your DPI slider to 800 DPI or 1600 DPI.

3. Step 2: Reset Windows Pointer Speed to 6/11

Open the Windows Run dialog (Win + R), type main.cpl, and press Enter. Under the Pointer Options tab, set the speed slider to the exact 6th notch (the center mark representing a clean 1.0× multiplier).

4. Step 3: Disable Mouse Acceleration

In the same main.cpl menu, uncheck "Enhance pointer precision". This disables variable velocity scaling, ensuring your cursor moves in strict linear proportion to your physical hand distance.
