How to Find Your Mouse DPI: All 4 Methods
Follow our structured decision tree to find the exact DPI resolution your mouse is running, whether you have official gaming software or a plug-and-play office mouse.
What is the fastest way to find my mouse DPI?
If you have a gaming mouse, open its companion software (Logitech G HUB, Razer Synapse, SteelSeries GG) — your active DPI stage is highlighted. If you have an office mouse or no software installed, use our calibrated online ruler test or check the bottom label for factory default DPI (typically 800 or 1000 DPI).
- Operating systems (Windows & macOS) do not report hardware DPI in Settings or Device Manager.
- Companion software provides the exact programmed value for gaming mice.
- The physical ruler test is the only 100% reliable method for mice without software.
Method 1: Check Companion Software (Gaming Mice)
If your mouse is made by a recognized gaming brand, download its official driver application:
Logitech G HUB / OMM
Open G HUB → Select your mouse → Click Sensitivity (DPI) tab. The bold highlighted number is your active DPI.
Razer Synapse
Open Synapse → Mouse → Performance Tab → Sensitivity Stages. Active stage is outlined in green.
SteelSeries GG
Open Engine → Select mouse → CPI 1 / CPI 2 gauges show active preset resolution.
ZOWIE / VAXEE (Driverless)
Look at the LED indicator on the bottom of the mouse: Red (400), Purple (800), Blue (1600), Green (3200).
Method 3: Manufacturer Specifications (Office Mice)
For standard non-gaming mice (Logitech B100, M185, Microsoft Basic Optical, Dell MS116), the optical sensor operates at a single fixed factory resolution:
Basic Office Optical Mice: 800 DPI or 1000 DPI (fixed)
Logitech MX Master Series: 1000 DPI default (adjustable 200–8000 in Logi Options+)
Method 4: Measure It Live with a Physical Desk Ruler
If you have an unbranded mouse or want to verify that your mouse is tracking accurately without sensor acceleration:
- Place a physical ruler on your mousepad aligned with the edge of your mouse.
- Open our Mouse DPI Tester.
- Set target distance to 2 inches (or 5 cm).
- Slide the mouse steadily along the ruler edge until you reach the 2-inch mark.
- The tool computes your active DPI instantly from raw registered counts.
5. Decision Tree: Which Method to Use?
Quick Diagnostic Sequence:
1. Is it a major gaming mouse brand (Logitech, Razer, SteelSeries, Corsair, Glorious)? → Use Method 1 (Software).
2. Is it a driverless esports mouse (ZOWIE, VAXEE, Endgame Gear)? → Use Method 2 (Underside LED).
3. Is it a standard office mouse? → Use Method 4 (Online Ruler Test).
