The browser listens for high-speed pointermove DOM events. On every packet arrival, the script calculates the delta timestamp (Δt) in milliseconds using the browser's monotonic high-resolution clock (performance.now()).

Browsers are designed to optimize battery life and render performance. Unless your browser specifically implements getCoalescedEvents(), it will merge multiple rapid USB packets into a single DOM event that fires once per display frame. A reading of ~144 Hz or ~240 Hz on a 1000 Hz mouse reflects display-synchronized event coalescing, not a malfunctioning mouse.
